About Us

Bringing SmilesBack to Their Faces

Children’s smiles may lose their luster after they experience serious situations or big changes in their lives. We want to bring back the smiles on their faces. This is why we provide different mental health services to give children the boost they need to live happier.

Who We Are

Since 2015, MedWay Support Services has provided culturally sensitive children’s mental health services to the growing diverse population of Minnesota. We offer Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) and Early Intensive Developmental Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) services in the Twin Cities Metro Area and Central Minnesota.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to assisting children and adolescents increase their social and emotional functioning that may be impaired due to a myriad of life circumstances including culture shock, separation from parents and/or homelessness, foster placement, loss of a loved one, etc. We aim to serve our clients with care and compassion utilizing unique rehabilitative techniques to empower them and restore hope though individually tailored counseling and skill building services.

Our Staff

Our supervisory staff has extensive experience working with children, families, and immigrant communities. We strive to recruit a diverse staff of qualified individuals who share similar cultures and languages with the children we serve.

Why We Exist

Immigrant children face numerous challenges. They need to learn a new language and culture and may face racial and religious discrimination in school and the community. Students often struggle academically with limited English and literacy skills, high suspension and drop-out rates, low college admittance rates, and disproportionate enrollment in special education. Large poverty rates exacerbate conditions. Immigrant youth are more likely to live in unstable neighborhoods, face poor health outcomes, and high-stress levels.

While immigrant children face integration challenges, they assimilate quicker into American culture than their parents. This divide creates a growing gulf between generations. Children and youth must navigate two parallel lives – adopt American culture while respecting traditional values.

These factors lead to children experiencing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, undiagnosed trauma, and other mental health disorders. We are here to provide them with the support and care they need to live happily as members of their families and our community.

Why We Are Unique

We embed a culturally sensitive framework into our service delivery. The members of our staff reflect the communities of our clients. We use culturally specific language and spend significant time before the first session explaining mental health concepts and how we help children. Our assessments factor in cultural issues or influences affecting a child’s behaviors and staff assignments incorporate client preferences.

Who We Work With

To support the success of the whole child and their families, we partner with external organizations and groups to develop coordinated care plans and collaborative efforts. Our partners include individual schools, school districts, primary and behavioral health providers, health plans, community-based organizations, youth services, and public entities.
